Educated at
St John's College Cambridge, in 1931 he was a priest in the diocese of
Ely. In 1941 he was appointed Priest in Charge of St Salvador, Edinburgh
he also became Chaplain at Edinburgh prison. In the Fifties be did considerable
mission work in Africa and in 1952 be was elected Bishop of Glasgow.
